I have been eyeing the Kaweco brand for some time now and have been intrigued by the historical significance of the Kaweco Classic Sport Collection.  I almost bought a Classic Sport just to see what all the fuss was about, but decided upon the little bit more expensive AL Sport in Black.

My Kaweco AL Sport (black) has turned into one of my top 5 favorite pens and one that I take with me every day wherever I go. I purchased a chrome Kaweco clip with the intention of keeping in my shirt pocket, but in reality I carry it in my pants pocket with a more expensive pen in my shirt most days.

I love the coolness of the aluminum body and cap in addition to the added weight that the AL Sport has over the Classic Sport.  The size is the same as the Classic Sport and is functional enough to be used as an everyday pen yet still compact enough to not be a burden to carry with you. 

The AL Sport has chrome trim, detailed stainless steel Kaweco German Nib and  chrome Kaweco symbol on the cap.  I personally like the Chrome/Silver accents better than the Gold which is the main reason I purchased the AL Sport rather than the Classic Sport, which comes with Gold accents and Nib color.

In my opinion the AL Sport (and the Classic Sport) pen must be posted in order to be comfortably used, otherwise it’s too short.  When posted, the balance and writing comfort is exceptional for a pen of its size.  The ink flow is actually very good and consistent, especially for a stainless steel nib.  However, I do wish that the cap security would have been better, as it sits lightly on the pen when posted without being screwed down.  The overall value of the Classic Sport is definitely a must have for any pen lover.

I personally would recommend an AL Sport over the Classic Sport (which is basically the same pen, just made of aluminum vs. plastic with chrome trim vs. gold trim), which comes in Black, Silver, Raw (chrome), or a metallic blue, as the weight and feel of the metal is more appealing to me.  Regardless the Kaweco Sport series is a must have due to its size, compactness, historical significance and overall value.
