Currently a Business and
Public Policy doctoral student at the Haas School of Business, University
of California at Berkeley, Justin Tumlinson researches the impact of
individual and corporate incentives on behavior in a spectrum of economic
settings, including (1) Workplace
Discrimination, (2) Team
Formation, (3) Corporate Social
Responsibility, (4) Offshoring,
(5) International Trade, (6) Social Security, (7) Socialized Medicine and (8) the Influence of Financial Support on Scientific
and Political Outcomes.
Professor John Morgan, University
of California at Berkeley serves as his primary
advisor. Tumlinson expects enter the
academic job market upon graduation, in 2010.
In addition to his academic
work, Tumlinson also serves as Founder and Managing Partner of a small
firm, ZIVIS LLC, engaged primarily in the advisement of so-called angel
investors and management of non-traditional investment assets. Prior to founding ZIVIS, Justin Tumlinson
analyzed deals and managed portfolio firms for Earlybird, a Munich based,
early-stage, venture capital firm.
From 1997 to 2003 he served in a variety of positions at Intel
including Sr. Operations Engineer where he advised capital equipment
decisions and global manufacturing operations. He also served as a Researcher in
advanced networking technologies where his duties included advising Intel
Capital’s investment strategy.
He holds an MS in Business
Administration and an MS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research,
both from the University of California, Berkeley,
as well as a BSE in Computer Science and Engineering from Northern Arizona University. He is a German Chancellor’s Scholar and a
Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His awards include the National Science
Foundation’s Graduate Fellowship and the Fulbright Fellowship.
